Such apps are dangerous because most of them are spreading fake news, propaganda, and information that is not only incorrect but also dangerous. People are desperate right now, looking for ways to protect themselves from catching the dreaded coronavirus. At TechWiser, we went through all the sources to find official, the government released or approved, coronavirus live maps and apps. Let’s begin.
1. World Health Organization (WHO)
WHO is tracking the whole world when it comes to coronavirus, which they recently announced to be a pandemic. You will find all up to date information on their dedicated page. The WHO’s live coronavirus map will show you all the countries which are hit by the epidemic and the number of cases that have been reported and confirmed so far. You can zoom in and out easily as the map looks a little bit cluttered when seen in its entirety.
2. Coronavirus Live Maps
The New York Times is a reputable source and has been for a long time. They have created a live map for the USA where you can see all the places where cases have been reported. The map is being updated on a daily basis as is evident from the timestamp. The size of the red circle depends on the number of people who have tested positive. These circles have been drawn based on county.
The Telegraph is another reputable source of news and journalism but in the UK. Instead of focusing on their home country alone, they went ahead and created a live map for coronavirus here. The live coronavirus map is interactive in nature. You can select to view the total number of infections, deaths, and recoveries. Live Sciences has also been keeping tabs on the spread of the novel coronavirus on their constantly update page. It gives you a breakdown of all the cases of the deadly virus reported across all states of America.
The map has been prepared with data collected from reputable sources like WHO, CDC, and more.
3. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
CDC is a government website and perhaps the most reliable source on all matters concerning coronavirus or COVID-19. The link will take you to their global live map which shows all areas infected with the virus but doesn’t share numbers. Then why link to it on this post? Because you will find plenty of other important and vital information like the latest news, how the virus spreads, what the government is doing to prevent further spread, possible ways to cure it, and more.
You will find links in the sidebar that will take you deeper where you will find live coronavirus maps for different states of America with real-time updated information on infections and whatnot. I would recommend you begin with the What You Should Know section where you will find info on how the virus spreads, symptoms, helpline numbers, and more. There are other sections worth exploring like traveling (national and international), labs and departments, and the population at higher risks, and then some more.
4. COVID Visualizer
Another interactive representation of the current COVID-19 numbers in the world. Developed by Navid Mamoon and Gabriel Rasskin, students at Carnegie Mellon University. Unlike others, this website gives a Google Earth-like feel and mimics the earth’s rotation as you let the globe sit idle. The website is simple and to check the COVID-19 toll, all you have to do is click on the specific country. This will give you a small pop-up containing, number of patients, total number of recoveries and the death toll, along with new cases added on the present day. In addition to that, you’ll also see a count at the bottom of the screen. The data is taken from Worldometers and is updated regularly. I suggest bookmarking it for constant updates. Coronavirus Apps for Android and iOS
5. Coronavirus Outbreak
Both Android and iOS have extremely strict app policies regarding COVID-19. Although there are many websites that help you gather information about the outbreak and its preventive measures, the number of apps hardly touch double digits. In terms of a live dashboard app, you have this one open-source app for Android called CoronoVirus Outbreak. The app is not available on the Play store and has to be downloaded from GitHub. However, the app is legit and it gathers data from an open-source data repository. It is maintained by Johns Hopkins University Center for Systems Science and Engineering (JHU CSSE). The app shows a global infection map as well as local infection data based on your location. For more information, you can check out our article on the app and it’s data sources.

Coronavirus Live Maps and Apps
I would like to stress the fact that you should also stay away from information being shared on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. The same also goes true for messaging apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, Messenger among others. People are trying to profit from this situation by selling rumors, fear-mongering, and spreading lies to sell make-shift products that don’t work. There is no official cure or vaccine for coronavirus that is known to work. Don’t try anything without consulting your doctor first. Self-quarantine is the best way to avoid this disease. Be vigilant and stay safe.
